What an MHCP Does

A Mental Health Care Plan is a document your GP prepares that outlines your mental health concerns, sets treatment goals, and refers you to a psychologist. It entitles you to up to 10 Medicare-rebated psychology sessions per calendar year.

ABOUT THE SERVICE

What is Mental Health?

Mental health care at a GP practice means you have a trusted starting point — someone who knows your full health picture and can provide support, treatment, or the right referral. Your GP can diagnose and manage common conditions, prescribe medication where appropriate, and prepare a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) that gives you access to Medicare-rebated psychology sessions. You do not need to be in crisis to make an appointment. Early support leads to better outcomes.
