Health Checks
A health check is one of the most valuable appointments you can make — even when you feel well. Many serious conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease develop without any symptoms. A Medicare-funded health check with your GP at Flagstone Family Practice can catch these early, when they're easiest to treat.

What is Health Checks?
A health check is a structured GP appointment focused entirely on your preventive health — not a specific illness or symptom. Your GP reviews your overall health picture, checks your key numbers, and identifies any risks before they become problems.
Health checks are different from a standard GP visit. You don't need to be sick to have one. In fact, the whole point is to find things you don't know about yet.
Medicare funds a range of health checks for specific age groups and patient types — meaning eligible patients pay nothing for the appointment.
Who Is This For?
Health checks are available to patients who fall into one or more of the following groups:
Adults aged 45 to 49 who are at risk of developing a chronic disease
Adults aged 40 to 49 who are at high risk of type 2 diabetes
Patients aged 75 and over — for a comprehensive annual review
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients of any age (715 Health Check — see our Indigenous Health page)
Patients with an intellectual disability
Refugee and humanitarian entrants — at any age within 12 months of arrival
Patients at risk of cardiovascular disease (Heart Health Assessment)
Women experiencing menopause or perimenopause
If you're unsure whether you qualify, call reception — we'll check for you.
What We Cover
Every health check is tailored to the assessment type, but most include:
Blood pressure and heart rate measurement
Weight, height, and BMI calculation
Blood tests — cholesterol, blood glucose, kidney function, and others relevant to your age and risk profile
Review of current medications
Immunisation status check
Family history review
Lifestyle discussion — smoking, alcohol, physical activity, diet, sleep
Mental and emotional wellbeing screen
Referrals and follow-up planning where needed
Your GP uses the results to build a clear picture of your health and identify anything that needs attention — now or in the future.
