Screening Programs We Support
Bowel and Lung Cancer
The NBCSP sends a free home bowel test kit to Australians 45–74 every 2 years. Lung cancer screening (LCSP) is available for eligible current or former smokers aged 50–70.
Breast Cancer
BreastScreen Australia offers free mammograms every 2 years for women 50–74. We refer earlier if you have a family history or notice any breast changes.
Cervical and Prostate
The Cervical Screening Test is due every 5 years from age 25. For prostate, we discuss PSA testing with men from age 50 — or earlier with family history or symptoms.

Your Family History Matters
If a parent or sibling has been diagnosed with bowel, breast, ovarian, or prostate cancer, you may qualify for earlier or more frequent screening than the standard national schedule. Tell your GP at your next visit.
Genetic Counselling
In some cases your GP may refer you to a genetic counsellor to assess your inherited cancer risk. This is particularly relevant for breast, ovarian, and bowel cancer with a strong family pattern.
What is Cancer Screening?
Cancer screening means testing for cancer before symptoms appear — when it is most treatable and outcomes are best. Many serious cancers can be found through simple tests: a home stool sample, a mammogram, a blood test, or a cervical swab. Your GP at Flagstone Family Practice can walk you through which programs apply to you, help with referrals, and follow up on any results that need attention.
Who Is This For?
Australians aged 45–74 due for bowel cancer screening (NBCSP kit)
Women aged 50–74 eligible for free BreastScreen mammograms
Anyone with a cervix aged 25–74 who has ever been sexually active
Men aged 50 and over wanting to discuss prostate health and PSA testing
Current or former smokers aged 50–70 who may be eligible for lung cancer screening
Anyone with a first-degree relative diagnosed with cancer
Patients who have received a screening kit but are unsure what to do next
